We’ve been investing in energy efficiency for 25 years
Énergir was the first energy provider to implement an energy efficiency program. In fact, we launched our first Global Energy Efficiency Plan (GEEP) on November 15, 2000. The goal? To help our customers reduce their energy consumption and guide them through their projects while providing financial support through grants.
At a time when the energy transition was not yet a top public priority, this bold initiative featured multiple innovative grant programs. It marked the beginning of a visionary and timely approach.
Today, the context has changed dramatically. What remains is our conviction that energy efficiency is still just as important as ever and is central to our decarbonization strategy.

By encouraging our customers to include energy efficiency in their projects, we help them consume less and better. Here are the results of 25 years of efficiency.
151,404 projects completed
More than $408 million in grants paid to our customers
872 million m3 of natural gas saved
Nearly 1.7 million tonnes of greenhouse gases prevented
Quebec ranks first nationwide in transportation and industrial energy efficiency, according to the Canadian Energy Efficiency Scorecard, a report published by Efficiency Canada as part of a project with Carleton University project. This position is largely due to the contribution of Quebec energy distributors like Hydro-Québec and Énergir, who play a key role in the province’s energy leadership.

Our ambition
Given the growing demand for energy and the need to support the energy transition, energy efficiency is more vital than ever.
That’s why Énergir is continuing to work towards its ambitious goal for 2030—to prevent an additional 1 million tonnes of GHG compared to 20203. To reach this goal, we continue to encourage our customers to improve their efficiency through programs and grants designed to adapt to market needs.
Together with our partners and customers, we have the power to transform how we use energy and build a low-carbon future. Ready to take action?
1 million tonnes of GHGs avoided between 2020 and 2030
