Better insulating your premises means reducing both your financial and heat losses—all while taking advantage of generous grants.1

Did you know that up to 75% of a building’s heat1 can escape through the walls, roofs, floors and windows? Every month, a significant portion of your energy bill could be slipping through the cracks!

  • 60%

Heating and air conditioning account for more than 60% of the energy consumption of Canadian businesses.2

Four benefits of good insulation

  1. 1

    High energy savings

Using less energy for heating and air conditioning can help you reduce your bill3 and your greenhouse gas emissions.

  2. 2

    Less maintenance, more durability

By protecting your building from variations in heat and humidity, you extend its lifespan and limit repairs.

  3. 3

    Higher resale value

Well-insulated spaces appeal to buyers and can stand out in the real estate market.

  4. 4

    Year-round comfort

No more drafts or temperature fluctuations: good insulation traps warm air in winter and cool air in summer.

Good to know

There are different ways to insulate a building: from inside, from outside, or by using self-insulating walls for new builds. You can also combine interior and exterior insulation. This is called mixed insulation.

What to prioritize

  • Prioritize wall and roof insulation: these are the most energy-intensive areas. They can let up to 50% of the heat escape!2
  • Focus on high-quality glazing: double or triple glazing significantly improves thermal performance.
  • Keep it airtight: a building without air leaks means lower energy bills!

Your action plan for an efficient insulation project

  • Plan your project. Assess your building’s needs and set energy efficiency goals.
  • Hire a qualified contractor and/or engineer. A recognized professional will ensure that insulation materials and techniques meet standards and maximize results. Depending on the size of your project, you may need the assistance of a consulting engineering firm. Registered consulting engineering firms assist Énergir customers in identifying and implementing their efficiency projects.
  • You or the registered firm you work with submits your grant application before the project begins. This is an essential step for a project to be eligible.
  • Take action. Kick off your insulation project and you could start seeing energy savings in the first few months.
