Choosing efficient equipment for your home is a smart choice for your comfort and your budget.
Equipment that uses less energy, more efficiently
Efficient equipment uses less energy than standard equipment to do the same thing—heating, cooling, washing or lighting—while providing comparable performance. Your choice can quickly translate into long-term savings!
Good to know
Home heating and cooling alone accounts for 54% of energy consumption1. Investing in efficient heating equipment can therefore generate significant energy and financial savings.
Distribution of residential energy consumption in Canada 2019

Examples of efficient equipment:
- Heat pumps :Ideal for heating and cooling a well-insulated home, heat pumps capture heat from the outside air and transfer it inside instead of producing it, significantly reducing energy consumption compared to conventional heating systems.
- Condensing boilers : Perfect for homes equipped with a hot water heating system, condensing boilers recover heat from combustion fumes to preheat the water, consuming 10 to 15% less energy than a conventional boiler1.
- ENERGY STAR® certified equipment: These heating and cooling units, appliances and lighting perform the same way as standard models2 while using 10 to 50% less energy.
- Smart thermostats : Installed in place of a standard thermostat, these units automatically adjust your home temperature according to your habits and can be controlled remotely from your smartphone. A smart thermostat can save you up to 8% on your energy bill3 and may qualify for a grant.
When evaluating the cost of equipment, don’t just look at the purchase price. Also consider the energy cost associated with lifetime use: some products can consume up to 70%2 more energy than other comparable models. That means equipment that costs more upfront can be much less expensive in the long term!
